I remember a lot of the same things everyone mentioned here.
A also remember not wanting to wait to grow up and get out on my own, to have my own place, life, wife, family and a good job, and a great future of living here in this country. For being a kid than becoming a young man for me was not all that great, although it had its moments.
I saw the promise of the American dream, some got the dream life, most people i knew, even then did not, but landed someware inbetween a rock and a hard spot. Although i didnt come to learn that later on, that life for those i knew was full of potholes too on the road to the so called "good life".
The American Dream...Its like unto someone who is into basketball living in the getto, trying to get that all important big break, to be seen by the scout, to get that one in a million chance at becomeing a big star.
Life is not all peaches and cream, it never really was, never can be here down on earth. The media has sold us all a bill of goods, the American Dream is a lie at worst, or is now just plain dead. Yah some get the good life, most have to live paycheck to paycheck, endure ethnic/racial descrimination, have to take on huge debts to make it happen. Then get into drugs and alcohol to just keep going, to stay asleep, to deny the reality that is pressing ever closer. Others get just ripped off, get it all taken away through devorce and family or health issues. Yeah it was a nice dream, now its all over.
Every civ rises and falls. This one is at the falling stage, no other way to look at it now.
Now i just cant wait to be going up in the Rapture to be with Jesus in Heaven, to have everlasting joy and life with him and to be reunited with loved ones. This world is still a beuatiful place, its just more fallen, full of sin, calamity and hopelessness.
In heaven there awaits an eternity for Jesus to make it up to us what we lost or failed to acquire here on earth. Best of all all that goodness that awaits us will never ever be taken away.
Blessing to you, See you all soon, may the Lord bless, protect and keep you in this dark fallen world till then.
