At my church in SoCal, we break out into groups throughout the week for home bible studies. Then focusing on not just hearing the word, but applying what we learn to our daily lives. One group came up with an idea to help those in need, without even knowing that person/family in need.
They came up with Joy Bucks. The website is http://joybucks.org
The basis of the program is printing of an envelope from the website (preferably on yellow paper) placing a dollar or more in the envelope, and passing it on to someone else. That person places money into the envelope, and passes it on. The instructions on the envelope are as follows:
The gift of spreading joy
Please add a dollar or more to the envelope, if you can, so the gift will grow
Then, offer the envelope to a friend or stranger
anyone you choose - so eventually can pass to someone in need.
May you experience the true joy of giving!
However, if you are the person with the significant need, this gift is yours to keep.
May it bring you joy knowing that others care.
There are bible verses on the envelope. I am starting 5 envelopes tonight, I am also including a salvation message, in case those it comes across do not know Christ.
Any thoughts?
