I'm not Catholic, and the Malachy prophecy is not part of scripture...but that doesn't mean it can't be true. It very well could have been a word from the Lord.

Popes chose a name of a saint or saints they want after their election to the Papacy by the Cardinals.
For instance, Pope Benedict XVI's birth name is, Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger, Pope John Paul II's birth name was, Karol Wojtyla [ from Poland - Karol with a "K" is a male name in Poland. ]

As was pointed out, Scripture does not list Popes as prophesy, only St. Malachy has done so - but with spooky efficiency.

So maybe he was indeed given the gift by God to correctly prophesy about the Popes.

It is debated if St. Malachy's last Pope is "Gloria olivæ", the current Pope Benedict XVI, or if someone else added the last Pope of "Petrus Romanus" ( "Peter the Roman" ) at a later date.

If there is another Pope, and If the prophesy is correct, he will be from Rome, but it's anyone's guess if his birth name will be Peter or if that's the Saint name he will chose.

Also, although I too do not like modern art, and I majored in Commercial Art in college, can no one see that the sculpture, albeit, modern art, is the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ ??

Finally, I am Catholic and this so-called "Chrislam", I have never heard of until I learned of it on this forum last year. I have since heard of it from a TV preacher here and there and I have absolutely no idea where they are getting their false information from.

I have seen people start to say that "all faiths pray to the same god", personally. People I work with. Famous people, including George W Bush (twice). Chrislam is a step in that direction. Everyone needs to stop being touchy about denominations. I couldn't care less what the formalities of a denomination are, by the way. There are more important things to know. Most denominations don't even believe in the Rapture, let along a pre-trib rapture...protestant and Catholic. We are in the minority folks.

I agree with beehumble that Chrislam is much more prominent in the protestant laodicean church currently than the rcc. It's also intermittently prominent in the muslim world. The news today is that in the convention in Qatar regarding Jerusalem that they are calling on all faithful arabs, muslims and Christians to come against the Judaization of Jerusalem. That and the oppression of Christians in Syria. They only love us when it benefits them.

Your assertion that AC will demand worship of him is correct I think, but only after the midpoint where he erects his abomination in the temple. The first half of Daniel's 70th week will probably see a one world religion and with Ac not being indwelt by nasty boy yet and having declared himself a god, I don't think he will be the focus. Chrislam "might" be. Or some believe a muslim caliphate. That's what they believe in Iran, I am certain.

Finally, having been raised catholic, I am aware that the local masses have little to do with cutting edge vatican doctrine debates. Actually there is relatively limited doctrinal teaching in many rcc churches, although this has much improved since Vatican Council II, which you might be too young to remember. It depends on the priest's homilies. Some are outstanding, others not so much.

Has your priest discussed the potential shift in original sin doctrine which discovery of advanced alien life would cause? The Vatican Observatory's representatives have. Has your local church called members of all faiths including atheists together for common prayer? The Vatican has.

The rcc is such a large group with so stretched out and complicated a hierarchy that what the laity see and what the leadership does are not the same thing. Our government is similar. What is our president thinking? We may never know.

Nowhere does Scripture say anything about the antichrist being a pope.

Scripture is always precise, but sealed - written at times, in some verses, in such a way as to be understood only in hindsight, or by a prophet of God. Foe example, while there are many prophecies that show Jesus is the Messiah, experts in the Scripture - the scribes and Pharisees - missed Him because of faulty interpretation. We more easily apply those verses to Jesus, but only because we have the benefit of hindsight.

But even interpretively, there is nothing there that could ever be indisputably said to pertain to a future pope being an antichrist, and any seeking such a thing, or believing such a thing, is on a fool's errand, and will miss the main event. Such a one to say such a thing is letting their own biases lead them away from the truth and into false, self-serving interpretation. Sounds like itching ears and fables, saying what one wants or hopes to hear, rather than the truth that is there.

I stand by it: any seeking signs of the rapture in what they hope will be an antichrist pope, will miss upcoming future events. As I said, I am sticking with 2017/2018 as the season when Jesus returns (date/time unknown of course), so the events are close, so it is not advisable to chase windmills at this point but to stay focused.

Regardless, this site is not about denominational issues, so I have addressed your point and that is the end of that.

This idea that the aliens could have an unencumbered relationship to Almighty God while our race has fallen concerns me, as this sounds a lot like the "great deception" theorized by many.

Could you expand on your comment about the two witnesses being killed in Jerusalem and what that has to do with the AC? I didn't follow you there.

And I agree that following the rapture all churches of whatever persuasion are going to be bereft of true believers, at least for a bit, which is going to result in a lot of messed up doctrine I expect. But Daniel's 70th week isn't called tribulation for nothing.

And since the AC doesn't show himself until after the rapture, it doesn't directly effect us anyway. For those left behind it should be clear to all tribulation saints that everyone they see weren't "true believers" at the time of the rapture, and if they have come to faith in Christ I would hope they would recognize the testimony of others who have come to faith in Christ rather than anyone's one world religion no matter how slickly described.

It struck me as I was reading these replies maybe there is a difference between the False Prophet(second beast out of the earth-appears in Rev. 19 later); character in Revelation 13 and the woman on the seven hills of either Jerusalem or Rome!!

Could there not be two leaders represented both in Revelation 13 and Revelation 17-18??!! Also there are no great harbors off Jerusalem to account for the ships being destroyed when the Great City of Babylon is destroyed with the dust of the city's destruction falling onto the heads of those who are offshore when they see the smoke of her buring!

If you take literal interpretation of virgin daughter of Babylon,or daughter of the Chaldeans, none of them can be referred to king Nebuchadnezzar.

The question is,who or what organization today will best fit into the description of young and delicate,and known as the Lady of kingdom to God?

Someone had implied the seven-hilled city referred to Rome (as some type of 'proof' of the pope being the antichrist or something) but Revelation tells us the city - it is the city where Our Lord was crucified, and that is unequivocally Jerusalem, which has seven hills. As for harlotry, the Jews are accused of harlotry in some of the Old Testament writings. God took them as His bride, but they 'cheated' and acted the harlot by engaging in worship of other Gods. For example, a major abomination, among other abominations listed in Ezekiel 8 that caused the destruction of the first Temple, Solomon's, was the Jewish priests worshiping the sun.

2ndcoming, that is your interpretation of Isaiah 47, but not the only interpretation. Most theologians see the opening of Isaiah 47 as a taunt-song, mocking Babylon, once queen of the nations, now made a slave girl. Isaiah speaks of how the great Babylon,a superpower of its day, gets destroyed and overrun in a single day, and a reason cited is it showed no mercy to the Israelites whom God delivered into 'her' hands, and also its pagan sorcery and astrology, which will be to avail when God strikes Babylon down. All this is given in Isaiah 47, and it came to pass - to this day the superpower Babylon is no more.

Again, we are not to be doing denominational issues, but you seem to insist on bringing it up for some reason - before you speak about Catholicism, please learn about it from a reliable source and not other unknowledgable protestants- read its Catechism or something. Catholics DO NOT worship Blessed Mary. The correct and customary meaning of 'to pray' in proper English usage is to ask or make a request, as when someone says to another person, "Pray tell me why you did that?" Using that meaning, Catholics pray to Blessed Mary and to other saints as well. We worship God at Mass on Sunday in the ancient form of public worship (liturgy means public worship - the people of God assemble or gather together and offer worship to God - the Israelites did this under the leadership of Moses, for example, gathering before the Tabernacle in the desert, with places allotted for each of the twelve tribes, then later in the city of Jerusalem around the Temple during Feasts of Our Lord). The first thing my formerly protestant wife said to me after her first Mass was, "I didn't hear anything about Mary." And I said, "At Mass we worship God, why would you hear about Mary there?" Outside of the Mass, Catholics pray to Jesus, to God Our Father, to the Holy Spirit, to the angels, to the Apostles, to Blessed Mary, to all of the Church Triumphant (those who have entered Heaven and are with Our Lord now).

Back to the subject at hand - I still believe Jesus comes back in 2017/2018, and for those expecting a rapture soon, they should be wondering how that fits into the seven years prior, or does it apply to happening before the last 3 1/2 years, or does Jesus come back at some later date (although there are a lot of signs pointing to 2017/2018).

And with my date of 2017/2018, I can see how this pope is the last pope, and that does fit with one version of Malachy.

[And for the poster who gave that link about another person's speculation of who the antichrist is, I read the link and the online book at that link and found it very interesting and intriguing, although hard to believe. I tend to lean towards the antichrist being Satan himself, entering into a person perhaps. As God came to earth, so might Satan himself come too during his hour , the 'short time' he is released from the bottomless pit. And when Revelation says, 'he was, is not, and will come up out of the bottomless pit' I felt that meant Satan, who was complete ruler over the world after seducing Eve, but who then lost that power when Jesus died on the cross, but who will get that power again for a short time once he is unchained and comes up out of the abyss for a short time before finally being defeated by Christ and then forever chained in the abyss.)

bee humble, I recall the "cognitive dissonance" I suffered when I attended a Marianist RCC church. It was before I began my walk with Christ, but still it was startling to have Mary behind the alter and not Christ and for the priest to bow to her during the service. Perhaps you have not experienced this for yourself.

I would say that currently there is no official AC or false prophet because they haven't entered their office yet and won't while we are here, to my understanding. I wouldn't be surprised if candidates for that would include presidents of ours or friendly countries, presidents or PM's of friendly or not so friendly countries, world banking leaders, EU leaders, UN leaders, possible mahdi's, any presumptor to the title caliph, etc. There are lots of potential choices out there. Including any religious leader who is left behind. As the rcc church is the largest church in the world, a left behind pope makes some sense.

What is important is that those who are also left behind be able to discern who is who once we are gone when these people do assume their offices.

I wonder if pope Ratzinger also read them.If he had,I wonder why he would pick the name "Benedict" which means glory of the Olives,you would think as a pope he'd not want to pick that name unless he wants to usher in the end?I heard the popes can pick their own name.
