Saturday, March 19:
Full Moon occurs at 2:10 p.m. EDT. It appears low in the east as darkness falls and climbs highest in the south shortly after midnight. The bright orb lies in Virgo, a little more than 10° from Saturn. Today also marks the Moon’s closest approach to Earth this month, a position called perigee. At 3:09 p.m. EDT, our satellite comes within 221,565 miles of Earth’s center. This makes tonight’s Full Moon the largest of 2011. The coincidence of Full Moon and perigee also means that tides will be abnormally high today.
