The above is a brief guide contributed last spring by Kolleen. Taken from Scripture Keys for Kingdom Living by June Newman Davis. Thanks Kolleen for these wise words and sharing them with us. I've taken the liberty to condense a bit to make a handy reference chart. This will be followed by 2HH's contribution of an article from Elvis Iverson called, " Manifestations Of Religious Spirits". Thanks go to her for her contribution which I also condensed a bit.
Thank you Kolleen for these flags of deception to watch for and recognize when we see them. They are effective for discernment and easy to recognize when we are aware of these signs in encountering others

from" Manifestations of Religious Spirits "by Elvis Iverson -----
Religion is the leaven of the Pharisees and the power that Satan uses to control Christians and the Church. Religion is a work of the flesh and those who practice such things will not walk in the fullness of Christ and the Holy Spirit. Religion is the sin of witchcraft and religion has the nature of witchcraft; religion and witchcraft are brothers and partners working together for common goals. Religion is deception put on hearts, minds, eyes and ears.
Religion is first a work of the flesh then after awhile it enters into the demonic and demonic spirits use such persons to do their will unknowingly. You first walk in the work of the flesh and that opens the door to evil spirits such as religous spirits. Religion is a sin of hypocrisy and a form of pride. The sin of pride is the beginning of all sins. Religion is the sin that sins against the Holy Spirit.
Christ never willed His Church to be a religion. This is man's doing. We are now living at the beginning of the end of religion in the Church. We are living in the time when Christ sets free the Church from religion and begins an end to this religion of man. What we will see within these years is the Bride of Christ arising from the earth in Glory apart from religion as we know from the past and now.
We can see religious spirits working through groups of people then working in in persons against the Holy Spirit, the new wine and new wineskins. The question arises here is if we can cast out religious spirits? Elvis believes we can cast out any unclean spirits in the name of Jesus. We ask the Lord Jesus to open their eyes, ears and set them free. This may take time for it is learning time in how to be set free. If you hear a sermon and become angry inside for no reason then you need to repent and ask God to set you free from such spirits.
What are the kinds of manifestations of religious spirits that you can see?
1. Religious spirits like to hear about sins and errors , mistakes of anointed ministers.
2. They rejoice over mistakes of their brothers and ministers in Christ.
3. Like to email out everyone on their list about a minister's mistakes.
5. Like to misjudge prophetic words or teachings then instead of emailing the person, they go to great lengths to email everyone else on their list.
6. Hearing something new, refuse to seek out the Word of God to understand truth.
7. Like to email ministers their thinking about the sermon to add their thinking or correction of the minister.
8. Do not seek understanding.
9. Do not like to seek knowledge.
10. When hearing something that is anointed becomes angry inside for no reason at all with the servant of God. Then they try to call it discernment.
11. In hearing things that are new to them they will try to give their word even though they don't understand what they are saying.
12. Like to dispute, quarrel and generate strife with those speaking and teaching things that are new to them.
13. Lie about the motives of a minister in order to attack his/her teachings.
14. Like to control apostles and prophets.
We need to pray for the mercy of God to give us all the eye salve of Rev. 3 so all may see clearly and steer their way clear of such dangerous behavior. That we may all fear God in His Holiness and open our eyes to understanding.
I'd like to end with a quote from our Brother in the Lord just this week on another post. Tender Reed has great wisdom and I love to read his wise words. He said, "Religion always becomes routine. Relationship is fresh, alive. and spontaneous. Religion dulls the spirit. Relationship always challenges us to be vulnerable and available. Religion says the cup is half empty. Relationship says the cup is half full."
David had a heart after God's own heart. He loved the Lord with great passion. He had a tenderness of spirit. He praised and worshipped the Lord. But that wasn't all he did in worshipping the Lord. The Word tells us he danced with all his might. Now that is relationship with a capital "R". God loved his humble and contrite heart. He didn't follow tradition. He was spontaneous. He had that Spirit of Fear of the Lord-- a respect that honored the Lord. David could've killed Saul and freed himself from Saul's persecution. Yet, he chose not to do so. He would not touch God's anointed. That's a great reverance for the things of the Lord and those He calls to serve Him , as well as honoring Him in all he did--in this case "didn't do". He recognized that God's anointing wasn't his to toy with in another. It wasn't his right to but God's to give or take away.
David was a sinner, too, but it's his heart God looked at and loved. David repented and grieved and God forgave and continued to lead him. David sought a deep relationship with the Lord and spent effort in seeking to know His emotions and who He is. That's relationship. Loving the other enough to seek out his characteristics, to "know" Him. As Christians we need to follow such examples of Godly Relationship as David and God's relationship. We shouldn't throw stones at a Christian brother or frag a fellow soldier in the back. Heaven forbid. We don't have that authority and need to realize that and accept it. For indeed it is a dangerous place to be trapped in a religious spirit mindset.
Instead we need to spontaneously learn all we can about God--seeking His heart like David did. David is a great example of a " sold out " servant of God. May we be blessed like that in our relationship with the Lord! May the Lord open our eyes to not only discerning such traits in others but in ourselves, as well. May Our Lord open our eyes to truth and understanding to this message and set free anyone caught up in this kind of mindset.
