Sorry about the title, it just tickled me!

Anyway, I just thought I’d put out a quick post about what is happening in the Holy Spirit…

For years I’ve heard people teaching on the ‘Baptism of the Holy Spirit’ and what they think that means and how to be Baptised in Holy Spirit and it’s always seemed a bit fluffy and vague.

Until January of this year when I had an experience which has stayed with me and has completely changed my view on the world. And it’s totally logical and feels totally natural whilst at the same time being totally supernatural!!

For all my life I’ve lived in my head, as in I was brain centred, but then whilst worshiping Jesus, who’se Holy Spirit fills the whole universe and is invisible, it hit me that my spirit is invisible!! And that’s where the change happened… my spirit became fully immersed in the Spirit of Jesus!!

And also the eyes of my heart were opened so that when I sit before Jesus I feel the vast open space above our heads within me and the spirit within me feels huge!! And I am fully aware of the presence of Jesus all around me… And it’s EPIC!!! B-)

Is this the baptism in the Holy Spirit?? :rose:

Is this the baptism in the Holy Spirit??

Humble horse I can only speak of what I have experienced.

my spirit became fully immersed in the Spirit of Jesus!!

When I feel the Spirit of Jesus it is like being swept up in the ultimate intimacy of love. It is oneness the melting of the spirits, it is intoxicating, giddy. I speak with in languages I have never learned, sometimes I am able to give an answer to somebody who is needs an answer. Sometimes being caught up in the Spirit makes me weak in the knees whether I am unable to stand, I get drunk like I have been drinking for hours, sometimes laughter flows I don’t have a care in the world, but it doesn’t leave me with a hangover only joy. I pray that the Lord continually bless you in your walk with him.

Please Lord Jesus come quickly and take your bride away. Amen!
Acts 2:38-39 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

    Hey HumbleHorse, greetings brother!

I agree with this take on the baptism of the Holy Spirit:

Also, I think it is very important for Believers to remember our sources of spiritual authority:

    Authority

You lived the life I could never live,

You died the death that I deserve,

You rose to life and now You live,

    That's how You forgive!

What, Then, Is The Baptism In The Holy Spirit?

The baptism in the Holy Spirit is an empowering for service that takes place in the life of the Christian (Acts 1:5,8). In it we are immersed in the Spirit’s life and power.

To illustrate, if we drank water from a glass, then the water would be inside us. However, if we went to the beach and stepped into the ocean, then we would be in the water. We receive, as it were, a drink of the Holy Spirit when we are saved, but when we are baptized in the Spirit, it is as if that initial drink becomes an ocean that completely surrounds us.

Just as the indwelling Spirit that Christians receive when they are saved reproduces the life of Jesus, so the outpoured, or baptizing, Spirit reproduces the ministry of Jesus, including miracles and healings.

Why Do We Need The Baptism In The Holy Spirit?

We need a power beyond ourselves for service and ministry in Christ’s Kingdom.

When Jesus gave the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20), He knew that His disciples could not fulfill it in their own power. Therefore, He had a special gift in store for them: It was His plan to give them the same power that He had — the power of the Spirit of God. So, immediately after giving them the Great Commission, Jesus commanded his disciples not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father promised, “which,” He said, “you heard of from Me; for John baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now” (Acts 1:4-5). He further promised: “You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth” (Acts 1:8).

The disciples waited in Jerusalem as Jesus had commanded, and one day when they were all together, “suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent, rushing winds, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. And they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance” (Acts 2:3,4). Then Peter explained to the crowd that gathered that they were seeing the working of God’s Spirit and told them about Jesus. The Christian church began that day with the disciples and the 3,000 people who joined them as a result of the day’s events.

We can undertake making disciples of all nations with some degree of success without the baptism in the Holy Spirit, but when we do, we are undertaking a supernatural task with limited power.

It is God’s will – it is His commandment – that we be baptized, or filled with the Holy Spirit: “Be filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18). The knowledge and reality of the empowering Spirit enables us to reproduce the works of Jesus.

When May I Receive The Baptism In The Holy Spirit?

It can take place at the moment you confess faith in Christ, as in the case of the first Gentile convert, Cornelius (Acts 10:44-46; Acts 11:15-16); but often it occurs some time after the salvation experience (Acts 8:12-17).

    Is There Anything To Fear?

Some people fear that if they ask for the baptism in the Holy Spirit, what they experience won’t be the authentic working of the Spirit. But once they do ask for it, they are always glad they did. God doesn’t cause us to do anything we don’t want to, and all His gifts are good and perfect (James 1:17). Jesus said, “Now suppose one of you fathers is asked by his son for a fish; he will not give him a snake instead of a fish, will be? Or if he is asked for an egg, he will not give him a scorpion, will he? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?” (Luke 11:11-13). The baptism in the Holy Spirit is an even better gift than any material gift you could receive, and God wants you to have it because He loves you and wants the very best for you.

What Should I Do Before Asking?

The Bible says that a wise man counts the cost before he begins to build a tower (Luke 14:28). This beautiful experience of the baptism in the Holy Spirit is a free gift, but you must be willing to submit fully to God to receive it.

Jesus will respond to a totally yielded vessel. He never asks anything of you that you are incapable of giving, nor does He ever fail to give you something greater in return when you do give your all. The joy He gives through total obedience to Him far outweighs anything you could possibly give up.

There is one more important consideration: In Acts 8, a man named Simon, deeply involved in the occult, wanted to buy the gift of the Holy Spirit. Peter sharply rebuked Simon, commanding him to repent. Therefore, if you ever at any time had anything to do with the occult (Ouija boards, fortune tellers, seances, horoscopes, ESP, transcendental mediation, hypnotism, or other such practices), you must renounce and turn away from all such sinful participation, and you must ask for God’s forgiveness and cleansing.

How Do I Receive The Baptism In The Holy Spirit?

You only have to do two things.

First, once you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior you just have to ask God to baptize you in the Holy Spirit. The Bible says, “Ask, and it shall be given to you” (Luke 11:9).

Second, believe you have in fact received this gift from God. The apostle Paul, writing to the Galatians, said, “Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by hearing with faith?”

(Galatians 3:2). The answer, obviously, is faith. You have to believe that if you ask, you will receive.

Pray this prayer if you sincerely desire to receive the baptism in God’s Holy Spirit:

“Heavenly Father, at this moment I come to You. I thank You that Jesus saved me. I pray that the Holy Spirit might come upon me. Lord Jesus, baptize me now in the Holy Spirit. I receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit right now by faith in Your Word. May the anointing, the glory, and the power of God come upon me and into my life right now. May I be empowered for service from this day forward. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for baptizing me in Your Holy Spirit. Amen.”

Now, having asked and received, begin to practice the power of the Spirit. An ideal place to begin is where the first apostles did, praising God in a new language. To do this, begin praising God out loud in whatever words come to you. Tell Him how much you love Him. Thank Him, worship Him, and yield your voice to Him. Now let Him give you new words of praise you never heard before. Praise Him with those words, too. You’ll find that this can be a very rewarding experience of communication with God that will build up your faith. Continue to pray to God each day in the language that the Holy Spirit has given you.

But this “prayer language” is just one of the gifts that God wants to give you through the baptism in His Spirit.

The Gifts and Fruit of the Holy Spirit

The apostle Paul told the Corinthians that the Holy Spirit would manifest Himself among them in special gifts, of which speaking in tongues was only one: “Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware….To one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, and to another the distinguishing of spirit, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues” (I Corinthians 12:1,8-10).

Paul also wrote that the Holy Spirit produces “fruit” in the lives of believers. These are virtues that demonstrate Jesus’ righteousness in the lives of His disciples: “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Galatians 5:22).

So, in asking for the baptism in the Holy Spirit you are availing yourself of these gifts for advancing God’s Kingdom and allowing the Holy Spirit to further cultivate in your life the fruit of righteousness – two great helps in living a life God can use mightily for His glory.

That’s the way it is with God. God is offering the baptism in the Holy Spirit to people who need only to reach out and receive it in order to be on fire to fully serve Him.

    Walking in the Spirit

By now you can see that the Holy Spirit is so much more than a shadowy figure to pay lip-service to on Sunday morning. He can be with you and in your to bring new life to your Christian walk. Likewise, the baptism in the Holy Spirit is more than a single experience. It is a continual dependence on the Spirit for guidance and strength in all circumstances. “If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit” (Galatians 5:25).

The baptism in the Holy Spirit cannot be earned. You cannot become “good enough” to receive it. It is a gift from God. It is not a “cure-all” for your problems. But the same wonderful power that enabled Jesus to open blind eyes, to command the elements of nature, and to live a life pleasing to the Father during His ministry on earth is also available to you. Ask, and it shall be given to you.

I Am the Lord! Besides Me there is no Savior. For there is no other name under Heaven given among men by which we must be saved. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved!...For in him we live, and move, and have our being!

I know that some received their prayer language a few weeks after asking. I think there is something about being ‘relaxed’ or like a child if you will that makes this easier. This happened to me about the age of 9 so I can’t speak from an adult experience.

We have this treasure in earthen vessels that the excellency of God's power may be of Him and not of us. 2 Cor. 4:7

The thing is, this isn’t just a spiritual gift, it’s a full on 100% experience of a true reality!!

I feel the vastness of the open space between us and the stars in my belly and my eyes see what or should I say Who is invisible ALL THE TIME!!

I have been fully Bible based, fellowshipping in church, with a very logical sense of reason as my base, but never experienced anything like this in my life!!! B-)

And I’m only sharing this because I want my brothers and sisters to have it too!!

    Humblehorse,

I believe that you were baptized with the Spirit the moment you accepted Christ as your Savior. What you are experiencing is therefore not the baptism of the Spirit but rather the work of that same Holy Spirit in a new way in your life.

It has been exciting to hear what God is doing in your life over the past few months. God made us with a mind as well as a body and emotions. Our relationship with Him involves all of us and can be a full sensory, mental, emotional, tangible experience. In this life, that experience can seem to come and go but the good news is that we are sealed with the Holy Spirit whether we feel it or not.

In one way, you have been experiencing a sneak peak into what awaits us all in heaven. Stay close to Him and enjoy the experience.

Dear HH, I love and totally agree with Rocki’s illustration and explanation in paragraph 2 ~ and I also agreed with the rest of that article.

If I may, I’d like to tell you what happened to me that I believe was the Baptism of the Holy Spirit:
I asked Jesus into my heart and was baptized when I was 10. I attended a small Methodist church with my mother.
I tried to be kind and good, I was always conscious of having Jesus in my heart, I learned a lot in Sunday School, and I loved Vacation Bible School. In other words, I did the things I knew to do at that time to honor the Lord.

When I was 16 & got my driver’s license, my mother let me drive 30 minutes away to a church in the next town on Sunday and Wednesday nights where some of my friends from high school attended (My church only had Sunday morning services.) I got involved in youth activities there, played the piano for youth revivals, traveled with a friend who sang beautifully and played the piano for her. When I was alone at home, I would drag out all of my contemporary Christian music books and practice playing and singing for hours and hours, I would sit out on our front porch and read my Bible, and I could go on, but you can see I was doing all I knew to do to learn about the Lord, grow close in relationship with Him, and try to be a genuine Christian.

I had not had any teaching on The Baptism of the Holy Spirit. One night, during a revival, I was listening intently to the guest preacher (This church was a Baptist Church – a little more “alive” than my tiny home church!), when all of a sudden, It felt like someone was pouring pure love down over my head and it washed all through me, and my heart felt like it was on fire! It didn’t hurt, but it was definitely fire! (As an aside – my boyfriend at the time had been seeing another girl who also attended that church so I had broken up with him – he was there sitting right behind me, and I had been feeling so hurt and I was mad at the girl, and after this happened, all I could feel for anyone, including them, was pure love and forgiveness. I didn’t care anymore what they had done! I could be kind to both of them with a heart full of love – not hurt! OK, I added this part because you know how intense those feelings can be between boyfriend and girlfriend especially at that age!)

After church, I was supposed to practice this song with two of my close friends in preparation for singing the next night at the revival. I was playing the piano and all three of us were singing. I felt such love and joy and that fire in my heart, oh, that fire! I played and sang my heart out, not really paying attention to anything else that was going on. I was singing to the Lord! When the song was over, I looked up, and my 2 friends who were standing at the podium hadn’t been singing, they were both staring at me with their mouths dropped open. I looked around and there were people standing around at the back of the church who had stopped in their tracks as they were going out the door and had turned and were listening to us (well…me). They started applauding. My 2 friends came over and said with kind of a look of wonder, “I’ve never heard you sing like that before!” and “I didn’t know you could sing like that!” Truth was, I didn’t either! Until that night. There was no fear in me anywhere of what someone might think.

HH, I have no doubt at all that that night, I had been baptized in the Holy Spirit! Does that resemble in any way (Not exactly the same as yours I know) how you felt? And, oh yeah, that fire inside just kept on burning!
(And has ever since.) Perhaps not as intensely as on that night ALL of the time, but sometimes in prayer, and often when my heart is intent on praising Him with everything that is in me. It rises up within me at times when I’m praying where there’s a desperate need in a situation. Always there, Buddy, always there.

Thank you for taking the time to read what happened to me. I hope there was some confirmation for you in some small way. Love you, Brother! Can’t wait to meet you when we get Home! Perhaps a jam session might be in order, LOL!

I did not receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost immediately upon saying the sinners prayer, it was about a year later that I did. The evidence that I received the Holy Ghost was while praying the Holy Ghost fell on me and I surrendered my mouth to the Lord, he gave the utterance, you feel him taking control of your mouth. It is not repeating see my tie, tie who stole my Honda stuff real fast. I cannot teach you to speak in tongues, but I can pray your thru to the Spirit. You will know when you receive the baptism of the Holy because you shall speak in tongues, not maybe. It is the initial evidence.

And they were “all” filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, “as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:4

You can see they knew that they had not received the Holy Ghost and Peter and John were sent for so they would receive the Holy Ghost they had already baptized in water.

But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ they were baptized both men and women. Then Simon himself believed also and when he was baptized he continued with Philip and wondered beholding the miracles and signs which were done. Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John Who when they were come down prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Ghost For as yet he was fallen upon none of them, only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. Acts 8:12-17

So you can see these had already been born of the water but they still had not received the Holy Ghost and Philip knew they had not because they had not spoken in tongues.

While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on “all” them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Acts 10:44-47

Humble Horse it sounds like you have gotten blessed but my question to you is Have you spoken in tongues since you believed where the Holy Ghost gives the utterance. You have to be praising the Lord with your mouth out loud.

Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus and finding certain disciples, He said unto them Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there by any Holy Ghost and he said unto them Unto what then were ye baptized? and they said, Unto John’s baptism. Then Paul, John baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them. the Holy Ghost came on them, and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. Acts 19:2-6

I personally received the Holy Ghost before water baptism, but many receive it while being coming up out of the water.

Now back to bed the Lord woke me up convicted me that I needed to explain things more perfectly to you Humble Horse since you are obviously seeking to experience him, I am sure you have been blessed, but have you felt the Holy Ghost take over you mouth and he gave the utterance??

Please Lord Jesus come quickly and take your bride away. Amen!
Acts 2:38-39 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. I either sing or listen to worship all day!! Obviously it would be inappropriate to sing in certain places, but in the car and at home and in meetings. I also have been filled with a supernatural confidence that rejoices in the truth and refuses to accept any lies.

I have had the gift of tounges for over 20 years and use it regularly in prayer… But what I am experiencing NOW is an all consuming reality which doesn’t come and go!! My spirit is fully immersed in the spirit of God and I am consciously aware of His Almighty Awesome presence filling the atmosphere around me and filling my very being!!

    Bring it on… :yahoo: B-)

Praise the Lord! That is totally awesome.

It was only after I received the baptism of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues that my life really changed that I started praying seriously for the Lord to reveal the whole truth about salvation after all I had grown up in a false religion and had I this experience earlier in life it would have been much different. It was only then that I overcame gambling playing slot machines sometimes upwards of $500 a day. I cursed like no tomorrow, I had tried reading the bible after saving the sinners prayer but I had started in the old testament and I put it down after a short time. It was after receiving the Holy ghost that I started in the new testament and going to church praying daily for the Lord to reveal all truth to me because the first thing that hit me afterwards is why I did not know about the baptism of the Holy Ghost being catholic, I remember making the sign of the cross back then and wondering I can understand about the Father, the son but how does the Holy Ghost fit in this picture, where does he fit in.

I did not know that the Father of Jesus the son of God is the Holy Ghost.

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on the wise; and When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Matthew 1:18

“Joseph thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife; for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.” Matthew 1:20

But the hour cometh and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth; for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. John 4:23-24

I am by no means perfect but I am a far cry of what I use to be. I thank God for filling me with his most Holy Spirit and giving me the hope of salvation and I long with all my heart, soul and being to be with him. It is only when I am immersed in his Spirit in communion with him that I am happy while I remain on this earth it is the only thing that carries me thru in this day to day life of those that strive for all the goods of this world and their endless greed for more. You can truly take this whole world and give me Jesus I won’t look back!

Please Lord Jesus come quickly and take your bride away. Amen!

The Holy Spirits presence is so amazing it just fills me up and makes me want to try flying to heaven! I grew up in an Assembly of God Christian home, but made my own decision to believe in our Lord Jesus at the age of 12. A year later at a youth retreat several of my friends had been baptized in tongues and I so wanted it to! It took two nights of praying hard (I think my initial unbelief hindered me) and then HE filled me up!! I’ve been praying in tongues in my personal prayer time since then, but lately things have been so rough I find myself praying more in tongues and less in my words. I believe everyone is filled with the Holy Spirit at time of salvation, but tongues is one of the nine spiritual gifts mentioned in 1 Corinthians so it does not happen automatically. At least that’s my interpretation.

I’m not musically inclined at all, but I would love to lead the cheering session during your heavenly jam HH and Patti!

    Lol, Rachel!

I didn’t speak in tongues the night that I described to you, but I had never been taught about tongues. It wasn’t until I was in college that the Lord gave me a friend that taught me about tongues. I went with her to her father-in-law & mother-in-law’s house, they all laid hands on me and prayed. It was then that I received utterance in tongues. Honestly, I thought I was just making it up at first, but they assured me I wasn’t and encouraged me to continue. I did, and later on I experienced confirmation through various prayer situations that, YES, this was definitely real. I don’t think I’m speaking a human language, though. I might be, but I might not be. When I hear someone speaking in Arabic, it sort of sounds like that, but sometimes it also sounds like the Cherokee (or some Native American) language.

I know what I experienced that night at church was VERY REAL.

I can’t answer your question, but I DO believe what you’re experiencing is real and from the Lord. The time you have spent in close communion with Him, praising & worshipping Him, spending time in His Word. Perhaps He has bestowed a further gifting upon you spiritually for encouraging others in these last days? I know that I am certainly encouraged and shored up, if you will, against the onslaught of darkness that tries to come against me in different forms. I’m no theologian, HH, but I believe whatever it is is from the Lord. Love you, Brother!

Oops! I meant Aramaic, not Arabic

I have been told when I am really in deep worship, dancing around I sound like a Muslim. My brother in law told me the Jews also made the same sound. I think it sort of sounds like a victory yell in the Spirit, I absolutely cannot get my tongue to work that way in the natural. :negative:
