Certainly not a mandatory issue of salvation, but definitely one of truth. Jesus could not possibly have died on Friday and fulfilled spending three days and three nights in the heart of the earth, even as Jonah was in the belly of the whale (John 12:40) I believe He died on a Thursday afternoon heading into a Friday night. Part of Thursday, Friday night, Friday, Saturday night, Saturday, Sunday night…gone by Sunday morning. Parts of 3 days and 3 nights. Not rocket science if you simply believe the scriptures.

And while I am at it, Happy Resurrection Sunday. Just read an article that reminded me of the clearly pagan roots of the holiday of Easter. True Christianity has absolutely nothing to do with the pagan roots of Easter. How Satan must find great satisfaction when he sees professing Christians partaking of foolish activities that have absolutely nothing to do with the true meaning of the gospel. Folks go to the social club on Sunday morning, then an Easter egg hunt for the kiddos, then some ham. Hmmmmm. Wonder why ham? Are you catching a theme here?

Lies, counterfeits, deception and rebellion. The predictable currency of the enemy of God.

John 14:1-3 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also."

I agree, this was just on Fox News just a few minutes ago… As Lauren Green just explained this Good Friday. Green is a practicing Christian and member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.. Lauren Green is the Chief Religion Correspondent for the Fox News Channel..

The Jewish day was measured from sun down to sun down.. How long was Jesus dead in the tomb?

If you are interested in hearing more about why it is Good Thursday, and not Good Friday, I just came across Hal Lindsey’s current program video for this week. He is teaching specifically about this.

We have this discussion on this forum few years ago.I believe Passove meal was taken on Thursday evening, with Jesus’ crucifixion on Friday around 3 pm. Burial also took place on Friday, before Great Sabbath Nisan 15 beginning on sundown that day. Resurrection took place on Sunday morning.

According to their tradition, even a half day is considered a day.

Hi 2nd Coming. Sorry, but as JD likes to say, we will have to agree to disagree agreeable. 3 hours on a Friday, all day Saturday, and part of Sunday night does not equate, IMHO, to 3 days and 3 nights in the heart of the earth. However, 3 hours on Thursday afternoon, all night and day Friday, all night and day Saturday, and part of the night Sunday certainly does fit that prophetic time frame that Jesus foretold. (Just in case you do not watch the video, Hal’s understanding is in line with the timeline I understand to be true.) This may be the last one, but until the Lord comes for His Bride, I will celebrate Good Thursday, not Good Friday. Happy Resurrection Sunday 2nd Coming!!

Barnes’ note on three days and three nights:

Three days and three nights – It will be seen in the account of the resurrection of Christ that he was in the grave but two nights and a part of three days. See Matthew 18:6. This computation is, however, strictly in accordance with the Jewish mode of reckoning. If it had “not” been, the Jews would have understood it, and would have charged our Saviour as being a false prophet, for it was well known to them that he had spoken this prophecy, Matthew 27:63. Such a charge, however, was never made; and it is plain, therefore, that what was “meant” by the prediction was accomplished. It was a maxim, also, among the Jews, in computing time, that a part of a day was to be received as the whole. Many instances of this kind occur in both sacred and profane history. See 2 Chronicles 10:5, 2 Chronicles 10:12; Genesis 42:17-18. Compare Esther 4:16 with Esther 5:1.

Sorry 2nd Coming, but the best I can do is agree to disagree agreeably. :rose: Shalom.

I’m with you Watchman35! It is too often that we try to fit our Lords words into our understanding instead of simply accepting what the text says. Three days and two and a half nights. Sounds like a vacation or something:)

Oops, I just got that wrong 😉

It’s actually three days and three nights regardless of the Hebrew understanding.

Also 2ndcoming, I understand Barns’ understanding but consider this; the Jews actually did already consider him a false prophet.

    Agree, disagree, that’s okay.
    Here’s to looking up! :yahoo:

Just had to speak my peace.

    Shalom
