    Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
    Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
    Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
    Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

    This is my story, this is my song,
    Praising my Savior all the day long;
    This is my story, this is my song,
    Praising my Savior all the day long.

    Perfect submission, perfect delight,
    Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
    Angels, descending, bring from above
    Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

    This is my story, this is my song,
    Praising my Savior all the day long;
    This is my story, this is my song,
    Praising my Savior all the day long.

    Perfect submission, all is at rest,
    I in my Savior am happy and blest,
    Watching and waiting, looking above,
    Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

    This is my story, this is my song,
    Praising my Savior all the day long;
    This is my story, this is my song,
    Praising my Savior all the day long.

    For some reason these words just spoke to me today. Hope they do the same for you. Much love to my peeps :yes: :rose: :heart:

    Romans1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

    I was curious as to whether Fanny Crosby would have known about “the” rapture, or if the expression was meant in a more general sense of the word. We likely won’t know the answer to that until we meet her in heaven. However, she was blind from childhood and the line about “visions of rapture (joy?) now burst on my sight” is ironic.

    She did believe in the coming of the Lord and our being caught up, though.

    Referring to Crosby’s songs, the Dictionary of American Religious Biography indicated: “by modern standards her work may be considered mawkish or too sentimental. But their simple, homey appeal struck a responsive chord in Victorian culture. Their informal ballad style broke away from the staid, formal approach of earlier periods, touching deep emotions in singers and listeners alike. Instead of dismissing her words as maudlin or saccharine, audiences thrilled to them as the essence of genuine, heartfelt Christianity”.[212] Crosby’s hymns were popular because they placed “a heightened emphasis on religious experiences, emotions, and testimonies” and reflected “a sentimental, romanticized relationship between the believer and Christ”, rather than using the negative descriptions of earlier hymns that emphasised the sinfulness of people.[213]

    My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord;
    my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. Psalm 84:2

    David…thank you for that song. I thought I knew all Fanny’s songs, but have never heard that one before. All the wonderful saints of God we will meet in heaven, like Fanny…

    Heather: I listened to Blessed Assurance just this past Saturday while travelling in the car and was struck just as you by the words …. “visions of rapture now burst on my sight” and “foretaste of glory divine”. Every verse is chocked full of assurance and faith. Thank you.

    And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

    Oh, this is one of the songs we sang constantly in our little country church while I was growing up. I didn’t know how to appreciate it then….. I have caught myself singing it many times…. Truly beautiful words and the melody as well. I have been in a real melancholy mood in the last several months, remembering my childhood, the simplicity of it and my little church being less than 1/4 mile away from my home, riding my bike to it, going in during the week by myself, (it was always unlocked) and playing the piano…. that was a big part of my life until my late teens (regretfully I drifted away)….
    but it IS TRUE, you always come back to your roots…. THANK YOU GOD! I now understand what BLESSED ASSURANCE really means! :yes: :yahoo: :Hi:
